Richard Johnsen, DMD

Dr. Rich Johnsen is a skilled and compassionate orthodontist with many years of experience helping patients achieve confident, healthy smiles. He provides expert care at both the Odessa and Hobbs clinics of Sperry Tivis & Wentz Family Orthodontics.

Born and raised in Staten Island, a special part of New York City, Dr. Johnsen commuted into Manhattan to attend Regis High School, where he received a classical education including Latin and Greek. He continued his studies at the College of the Holy Cross before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He remained at Penn to complete his orthodontic residency and later served on the faculty for six years, mentoring the next generation of dental professionals.

Dr. Johnsen also proudly served as a Navy Reserve dentist for eight years, gaining valuable experience while providing care to service members. He then went on to maintain an orthodontic practice in rural western New Jersey for many years where he and his wife, Judy, raised their three children on their farm. This was an experience they treasure for the values and memories it created.

He recently relocated from Abilene, Texas to Midland to be closer to the communities he serves in Odessa and Hobbs.
