Dr. Stephen Sperry grew up in the small town of Omaha, Texas, where his dad, Dr. Fred Sperry, was the beloved local dentist. From an early age, he saw how dentistry could change lives — but he didn’t immediately plan to follow in his father’s footsteps. After exploring different degrees in college, he realized that what had inspired him all along was right in front of him: a career in dentistry.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University–Texarkana and then completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Baylor College of Dentistry (now Texas A&M College of Dentistry) in Dallas. After graduating, he returned to his hometown to practice general dentistry for three years. During that time, he discovered what truly fascinated him, orthodontics.
That passion led him to continue his training through a full orthodontic residency at St. Louis University, one of the nation’s leading programs. There, he conducted research on preventing white spots on teeth after braces, graduated as valedictorian, and earned both his orthodontic specialty certificate and a Master of Science degree. He later became a board-certified orthodontist.
After residency, Dr. Sperry and his family made their home in Lubbock, where he has been deeply involved in the South Plains District Dental Society. Over the years, he has served as chair of the Dental Health and Public Information Committee, secretary/treasurer, vice president, president-elect, and now president. His leadership and service were recognized with a nomination for the Texas Dentist of the Year Award.
Beyond his work in Texas, Dr. Sperry has a passion for helping others through international mission work. Beginning in dental school, he traveled to Mexico, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. For 11 consecutive years, he spent spring break in Guatemala, where he and his team built a 21-chair dental clinic inside a local hospital — a project that continues to serve the community today.
Dr. Sperry is married to his high school sweetheart, Anna. The two began dating as teenagers and have been inseparable ever since. Together, they’re raising three wonderful kids — Eli, Henry, and Kate — who keep their days full with football, basketball, gymnastics, golf, and ballet.
Family time often means being outdoors. Whether it’s fishing, farming pecans at their ranch in Spur, Texas, or hitting the golf course together, the Sperrys stay busy doing what they love most: spending time with each other. On the golf course, Dr. Sperry and the younger two usually team up to take on Eli, while Anna enjoys walking the course and cheering them on.
The staff and Dr Sperry have been absolutely amazing and very helpful and knowledgeable. I have never been a big fan of dentists because of bad experiences in the past and it is so comforting to be able to come in and be treated with such compassion and care! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

We took my grandson for his evaluation to begin the second phase of treatment with Sperry, Tavis & Wentz Family Orthodontics, and we are very excited for him. Everyone was so helpful, supportive, and welcoming throughout the visit. The dental hygienists were very kind and took the time to explain everything clearly, including the treatment process and what to expect. The office and workstations were also very clean and organized. I would definitely recommend them to family and friends.
We had a great a experience at Sperry, Tivis Wentz orthodontics- our Treatment Coordinator, Kathy, was exceptional. She went above and beyond to help with insurance. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. They are lucky to have thus young lady working for them. Also, Dr. Tivis provided us with exceptional care. I highly recommend this office.
