Dr. Ed Wentz was born in San Antonio, Texas while his father served in the U.S. Army. His dad, “The Colonel,” pursued dental school, as well as an orthodontic residency, eventually serving as the consultant to the Surgeon General for Orthodontics. His career brought them to many places, Alaska being one of his favorites. He was thankful to watch his father's passion for orthodontics and see the transforming smiles of many of his friends. It was so rewarding that he decided to pursue orthodontics; it was so contagious that his brother, sister, and his son decided to follow in “The Colonel's” footsteps. For all of them, it was truly a family tradition.
Upon graduation, he was offered an opportunity here in Lubbock to practice orthodontics. In 1986, he married Lisa, a periodontist whom he had met in residency, now his wife of 39 years. The West Texas people and culture grew on them, and in 1987, they established roots in Lubbock, starting Wentz Orthodontics. Dr. Wentz is extremely proud of the talented team he enjoys creating beautiful smiles with every day.
Both Drs. Ed and Lisa are thankful to be part of the Lubbock community, raising not only their children, but their grandchildren here in West Texas.
Dr. Wentz attended Wheaton College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He continued his education at Indiana School of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, and then attended Louisiana State University for his specialty training in orthodontics, where he received advanced education in early treatment and functional appliances. He also became a board-certified orthodontist early on in his career.
Dr. Wentz is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, as well as a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Southwest Society of Orthodontists, American College of Dentists and the Texas Dental Association. He has served as President of the LSU Orthodontic Alumni Association as well as multiple offices within the South Plains Dental Society, and director of the Southwest Society of Orthodontists. He has also had the opportunity to lecture on a national level.
Dr. Wentz believes in giving his time and talents to the Lubbock community. He founded the local chapter of Smiles for a Lifetime, a national non-profit that provides complementary orthodontic care for deserving, underprivileged children. He has served alongside many community organizations such as Lubbock Impact, the Diabetes Association, Heart Association, and Cancer Society, as well as partnered with west Texas schools to support their students and their activities.
He is very thankful to be part of such a great community.
My son had a great experience with Wentz. It was a quick process and they were always very friendly and made him feel comfortable.
Everyone at Wentz has already been so pleasant and helpful. I couldn't be more pleased with the progress of my daughter's smile.
Through my own orthodontic journey and now completing my daughters, this Sperry, Tivis, & Wentz have been amazing! We have working most with Dr. Sperry and enjoy his upbeat demeanor and willingness to talk through all our questions. The assistants are also great and a fun crew to work with! I highly suggest them!
