Born and raised in the scenic foothills of the Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh, India, Dr. Oman Konia brings to her work a unique blend of passionate enthusiasm, global perspective, and strong clinical expertise. Having lived in different parts of the world and moved to the United States entirely on her own — with no personal connections — she has embraced every challenge as an opportunity for growth, both personally and professionally.
Her journey in dentistry began in India, where she completed dental school at the country’s top dental university. There, Dr. Oman was honored with state-level awards for excellence in both clinical hand skills and academics, ranking first out of 3,500 dental students across 35 different dental schools. She began practicing immediately as a general dentist in her hometown, where she developed a deep appreciation for patient-centered care and a growing passion for orthodontics.
Motivated by that passion, Dr. Oman moved to the United States to pursue advanced specialty training. Her American journey began with a one-year fellowship in orthodontics, followed by a year of research as a Visiting Scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). There, she became one of only two international students accepted into UCLA’s highly competitive and world-renowned Orthodontics Specialty Residency. Over the next three years, she completed both her orthodontic residency and a master's degree in oral biology at UCLA.
During her training, Dr. Oman had the honor of presenting complex cases at the American Association of Orthodontists — the highest professional platform in the field. She also received extensive training in craniofacial orthodontics, with a focus on cleft lip and palate care, airway-centered treatment, and interdisciplinary surgical cases.
She is an active member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Texas Association of Orthodontists, and the Southern Association of Orthodontists.
After her time in California, Dr. Oman practiced in Austin, Texas, where she continued to refine her clinical skills and build meaningful relationships with patients and their families. As someone from a small town, she had always dreamed of returning to India to serve her community. While life led her to remain in the U.S. to be with her husband, she made it a personal mission to care for patients in small, welcoming towns that remind her of home.
That desire is what led her to become a travel doctor with Sperry, Tivis & Wentz Family Orthodontics, serving patients in Lubbock and the smaller surrounding towns. She was inspired by the warmth of the people there and the incredible team at Sperry, Tivis & Wentz Family Orthodontics — and she’s proud to now call West Texas her home.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Oman enjoys a well-rounded life filled with reading, hiking, travel, and culinary adventures in the kitchen. She also loves spending quality time with her husband, family, and friends, and is a devoted movie lover and lifelong learner. Whether she’s exploring new cultures or embracing the quiet joy of everyday routines, she finds inspiration in experiences that enrich both her personal and professional life.
It’s a true honor for Dr. Oman to serve the families in West Texas, and she is excited to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community.
We tried for over two years to get x-rays for my Grandson at a different office. Our first visit at Wentz Orthodontics an experience beyond any and all expectations we had. Our 13 year old Grandson is Autistic and has not been able to do dental x-rays because of fear. It has been horrible. We went to our first visit at Wentz not only was x-rays a success my Grandson got braces the same day!My Grandson was involved in the process, everything was explained to him, he was not rushed, they worked with, cheered him on and took their time.It was AMAZING to see my Grandson not only do what has been impossible for over 2 years but he did it being comfortable, in control and smiling while making "new friends ".I wish we would have know about Wentz Orthodontics two years ago. In our world of special needs it is hard sometimes impossible to get understanding and patience Wentz deserves the gold star of the year award. We are so very thankful for the staff at Wentz Orthodontics and Dr. Oman. They truly are the BEST!!Pamela Counts
